NEWARK -- The 35th Annual North American Consumer Protection Investigators (NACPI) Conference will be held at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center at Two Convention Boulevard, Atlantic City, NJ 08401 on Sunday, August 5 to Wednesday, August 8, 2012.  This year’s conference is being hosted by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and the Cape May County Office of Consumer Affairs.

Conference participants will represent consumer protection agencies from across the United States and Canada.  The NACPI conference is designed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and resources in the area of consumer protection.

This year’s theme is “Always Tuned In.”  NACPI members will be provided information on the tools and resources that have been effective for consumer protection agencies throughout North America and will discuss new trends in crime, scams, and unfair and deceptive acts by individuals or businesses.  Eric T. Kanefsky, Acting Director of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, will serve as the keynote speaker on Monday.  Other notable speakers will include Sergeant Cy Bleistine of the New Jersey State Police, Seena Gressin of the Federal Trade Commission, and Greg Nodler of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Topics to be discussed throughout the event include moving fraud, cyber-fraud, the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, and undercover consumer fraud sting operations.

“This conference is a major vehicle for bringing top individuals in the field of consumer protection together to address concerns created by the ever-changing nature of consumer crime,” said Tonya Hetzler, Vice President of NACPI.  “With the preparation and techniques that members from all over North America will obtain through the conference, our colleagues will be better equipped to help consumers who have fallen victim to fraud.”

For more information on NACPI and details on the conference, go to www.NACPI.org.
