Fugitive Pedophile from Florida Caught in Newtonville
State Troopers Seek Further Info

Buena Vista Township, Atlantic County, N.J. - Fugitive Task Force members located and arrested a fugitive pedophile in Newtonville on the morning of Wednesday, March 7.  Harvey Wayne Taylor, 58, was wanted on a 2004 warrant for violation of probation in Brevard County, Florida.   Taylor was on probation for multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault of two of his daughters when they were under the age of 12 back in the late 1980s.  Both daughters are now deceased.

Taylor was apprehended in Maine for parole violations in 2002 after hiding outdoors in the snow for several days.  He was returned to Florida where he was again placed on parole.  Taylor failed to register in Florida as a sex offender and again absconded to parts unknown until Wednesday’s arrest.

New Jersey State Police Detective Sergeant Steven Brown was assigned as the case agent with the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force.  He and task force members from other agencies worked for about one week with some new leads and located Taylor and his son, Rocky Taylor, 25, at a Newtonville apartment building where they were working as painters.  Rocky Taylor was encountered outside the building, and attempted to hinder the search for his father.  Harvey Taylor resisted arrest when police located him inside.  Both men were arrested and transported to Buena Vista State Police Station.

The Taylors were living in a small trailer in a wooded area of Newtonville.  They kept a very low profile, which made the fugitive investigation difficult.  Harvey Taylor worked as a handyman for cash, and had no bank account or driver’s license.  He went by the name Skip or Wayne Taylor, and his son often used Ricky Taylor.

Harvey Taylor was placed in Atlantic County Jail on a no-bail warrant, charged as a fugitive from justice and for resisting arrest.  Rocky Taylor was charged with hindering apprehension and also placed in Atlantic County Jail on $2500 with a 10% option.

Based on Harvey Taylor’s prior record in Florida, and his failure to register as a sex offender, the New Jersey State Police are interested in speaking with anyone in the Buena Vista Township area with knowledge of illegal activity related to his presence in the area.  Information may be given confidentially by contacting troopers at 609-561-1800.
