Troopers Nab Police Imposter & Impound His
Fake Cop Car

HAMMONTON, N.J.- A Sewell man was arrested today after a three week investigation into complaints made by motorists regarding a suspicious looking "police car" driving erratically on the Atlantic City Expressway. On June 20th, several witnesses reported to the State Police that a green Ford Crown Victoria was forcing cars out of their lanes and attempting to pull them over to the side of the road. The ensuing investigation led to the capture of the man responsible for these complaints.

Kenneth DiLuigi, 53, was arrested at his Gloucester County home early this morning by detectives from the NJSP Fugitive Unit and Atlantic City Expressway Barracks after obtaining an arrest warrant from Judge Walter L. Marshall of the Gloucester County Superior Court. Troopers also impounded DiLuigi's green Ford Crown Victoria equipped emergency lights.

DiLuigi was charged with Impersonating a Police Officer and lodged in the Gloucester County jail in default of the $10,000 bail.

The State Police want to remind motorists to take the following actions if they are suspicious about the bona fides of an unmarked police car trying to stop them:

  • Slow down and put on your flashing hazard lights. This indicates to the police officer that you acknowledge their presence and are not eluding them.
  • Contact 9-1-1. Give them your location and describe your concerns.
  • Stop your vehicle in a well lit area with people around.

(Note: Most unmarked police vehicles conducting traffic enforcement are driven by uniformed officers.)

Charges are merely accusations and the suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
