Deborah
Edwards, a long-term employee of the
Department of Law and Public Safety,
has served as Chief of Staff/Assistant
Attorney General in the Office of
the Attorney General since March 2010.
As a member of the Attorney General’s
Executive Staff, Deborah is responsible
for assisting in the overall management
of the Department and provides daily
guidance to division directors and
managers. In her role as Chief of
Staff, she also oversees all employment
matters concerning the Department,
provides policy guidance regarding
ethics matters and determines all
employment discrimination matters.
Prior to being appointed Chief of
Staff, Deborah served as Section Chief
of the Division of Law’s Employment
Counseling Section where she was responsible
for providing legal advice and training
to state agencies on employment issues.
Deborah joined the Department of Law
and Public Safety in 1988 as a deputy
attorney general in the Division of
Law’s Public Utility Section.
Thereafter, for the next ten years,
she was assigned to the following
sections in the Division of Law --
Consumer Affairs, Tort Litigation
and DYFS. In 1998, Deborah was named
Assistant Director of the Division
on Civil Rights where she was responsible
for the agency’s outreach and
prevention efforts. In 2000, she was
named Assistant EEO Officer in the
Office of the Attorney General and
in 2002, she was asked to serve as
the EEO Officer for the department.
Thereafter, in 2004, Deborah was named
Chief of Staff of the Division of
Criminal Justice where she oversaw
personnel and administrative matters,
and shared responsibility for the
overall supervision of DCJ. In 2005,
Deborah left Law and Public Safety
to take a position as Court Executive/EEO
Officer with the Burlington Vicinage
of the New Jersey Superior Court.
Deborah returned to the Department
in 2009.
