The intent of the New Jersey Racing Commission’s medication rules are to protect the integrity of horse racing, to guard the health of the horse, and to safeguard the interests of the public and racing participants through the prohibition and/or control of all drugs and/or foreign substances foreign to the natural horse. This Quick Reference Guide presents suggested withdrawal times in which therapeutic medications must be withdrawn before the start of a racing program or specific race in which the horse is entered.

Medication Guidelines for Race Horses - 2007

This booklet provides medication guidelines to assist horsemen in complying with the New Jersey Racing Commission’s medication rules. Drug testing services are provided by the NJ State Police - Office of Forensic Sciences-Equine Testing Laboratory. This booklet is for references purposes only, and is not a warranty, guarantee or assurance about any generic substance described herein. The information does not relieve or lessen a trainer’s responsibilities outlined in the medication rules and should not be considered a substitute for the complete Medication and Testing Regulations of the Commission contained in N.J.A.C. 13:70-14A and 13:71-23.
