1. Who is eligible to attend classes at HRDI?
HRDI classes are open to everyone: public agencies and employees, non-profit agencies and their employees, and private individuals. HRDI was originally developed by the State of New Jersey as the official training agency for government employees; however, today, anyone can purchase a seat in a catalog course or contract class.

 
  2. How do I get started?
First, consult our List of Courses to find the classes in which you are interested. For catalog classes, you can register online or call 609-777-2225 for more information.
 
  3. How do I find the class that I am looking for?
There are a few ways to find the course you are looking for. The HRDI website offers a complete alphabetical list of courses also arranged by a specific professional category. Click on a course name and you will find the course description, test dates, times, locations, etc. If you still are unable to find the course you are interested in call 609-777-2225 or email hrdifeedback@dop.state.nj.us.
 
  4. How do I get more information on HRDI and its services?
You can view our Programs and Services section of our website for information on HRDI Services. For additional information, please call 609-777-2225 or email hrdifeedback@dop.state.nj.us. We will be happy to answer your questions.
 
  5. Can I use your facility to conduct my own training?
Yes. Room and computer lab rentals are available for a fee. For more information on HRDI’s facilities, please visit our Facilities Accommodations.
 
  6. Can I request training that is not available in the List of Courses?
Yes, HRDI offers Contract Classes designed for specific groups of people. HRDI will work with you to develop a custom program for your group. An HRDI representative will meet with you to discuss course content and any special requirements that may be necessary. For example, you may want a situation specific to your organization included as a case study, or prefer the program to include nonstandard content. HRDI will work with you to make sure that the course meets the needs of your staff.
 
  7. Can HRDI tailor a program to meet the needs of my organization?
Yes, HRDI offers Contract Classes designed for specific groups of people. HRDI will work with you to develop a custom program for your group.   8. What is a Contract Class?
Contract classes are classes scheduled for large groups of people and/or specifically designed to meet a certain organization’s skill requirements. If you have ten or more people looking for the same class, HRDI will come to your facility to instruct the class. Contract classes can be custom developed to fit the specific needs of your group. If your organization is interested in contracting for an entire class, please call 609-777-2225 and ask to speak with the Customer Relationship Manager for your state agency or for the county in which your municipality/business is located.
 
  9. Is there a fee for customizing (tailoring) a course for my organization?
The fee for customizing a course depends upon the amount of tailoring required.
 
  10. What is the maximum number of people for contract classes?
For most contract classes the maximum number of people is 25.
 
  11. If I want a class in my town but I don’t have ten people, can I partner with another town?
As long as you have a group of ten or more, HRDI can offer its courses at your site. It doesn’t matter whether the people are from your own town or organization.
 
  12. How do I register for HRDI classes?
There are four different ways to register for HRDI classes: phone, online, FAX or mail. All New Jersey State employees should complete registration forms and submit them through their departments’ training liaisons.

All other prospective trainees should submit completed registration forms either by:

  • FAX: your registration form anytime to (609) 777-2336.

  13. How will I know I am registered for the class?
Once you register for a class you will receive a confirmation from HRDI specifying the title, date and location of the class. If you do not receive a confirmation, call 609-777-2225 or email hrdifeedback@dop.state.nj.us for information about your registration.
 
  14. What if the class is full?
Classes fill up quickly, so it is important to register in a timely manner. If a class has no available space, we will put your name on a waiting list and contact you when another class is available.
 
  15. How much do classes cost?
Fees vary for each class. The fee per person is listed next to the title of each class.
 
  16. Does my employer have to pay for the class or can I pay for myself?
You are welcome to pay for a class yourself. Please make a check or money order payable to DOP/HRDI, and mail to:

  17. Are all classes held in Trenton?
While many of our courses are conducted at the HRDI facility in Trenton , classes are also held throughout New Jersey at a variety of training facilities. Depending upon which class you are interested in, you may be able to find an alternate location. Please check our List of Courses to find the class you are interested in.
