The COP-2-COP Intervention Hotline is the first program of its kind in the United States . The Program is the only crisis intervention hotline to be certified by the American Association of Suicidology. In July 2000 the Department of Personnel and the University of Behavioral Healthcare (UBHC) created a partnership to start the COP-2-COP Hotline Program.

The program "went live" on November 1, 2000 . Since then, it has expanded its services from serving law enforcement only, to include fire and public safety employees and their families.
