Schwartz discussed the Department of Personnel's (DOP's) innovative programs designed to benefit the municipal workforce, including the Student Intern and Police Assistant programs, as well as the County and Municipal Personnel System (CAMPS).
"These new programs will help municipalities to take a better look at their workforce and effectively manage them," declared Schwartz.
"We look to local governments for new ideas on how we can improve DOP's services. Programs such as the Intergovernmental Transfer, Police Assistant, and Student Intern were developed in response to ideas and requests from local governments," added Schwartz.
Deputy Chief Jubilee praised the Police Assistant program saying, "Because communities have increased diversity in our police force, they have built a force more representative of their community."
Mayor Faison commended the DOP's training arm, the Human Resource Development Institute. "We have used the DOP's HRDI team building and diversity training for our police officers, and that program has proven to be very successful for the city of Camden," commented Faison.
Mayor Smith lauded the DOP's Employee Recognition Awards Program, which recognizes outstanding public service employees and encourages better customer service.
Mr. Scalera brought the corporate perspective to the discussion and recommended public/private partnerships among business, labor, government and educators.
Note: In its' 89th year, the League of Municipalities Annual Conference in Atlantic City is the largest gathering of municipal officials in the state, with more than 20,000 registrants and more than 125 workshops and sessions.
