Monroe Township Senior Center - Commissioner of Personnel Ida L. Castro asked township seniors to support Governor James E. McGreevey’s property tax reform initiatives and responded to their questions.

“Seniors who worked all their lives to pay out their houses are now in danger of losing their homes because of property taxes,” commented Commissioner Castro. “We need you to contact your representatives to tell them you want this bill passed.”

In order to bring desperately needed property tax relief, Governor McGreevey proposes: a “millionaire’s tax,” a constitutional convention, and a 2.5% cap on school budget increases.

Commissioner Castro went on to say, “President Bush’s tax cuts for the upper echelon mean that if you earned over $500,000 you got back a $20,000 windfall. Governor McGreevey is saying, how about giving about $800 of that money to the state to help relieve the tax burden on municipalities? Only about 28,000 people will pay this additional money which will allow us to double or triple the maximum payment seniors can receive.”

Governor McGreevey is asking the State Legislature to adopt his FAIR (Fair and Immediate Relief) tax plan. Every dollar of the anticipated $800 million generated by the “millionaire’s tax” will go directly to property tax relief for New Jersey’s working families and seniors.

Thanks to your support, New Jersey’s State Legislature passed the “millionaire’s tax,” which has now been signed into law by Governor James E. McGreevey.

City of Camden, Battleship New Jersey - Commissioner of Personnel Ida L. Castro joined Camden Mayor Gwen Faison and Assistant Director of NJ Transit Alma Scott-Buczak in welcoming attendees to a NJ Transit Job Fair on board the Battleship New Jersey.

Commissioner Castro said, “I hope you will consider a public service career...to be a part of making New Jersey a good place to live, for you and your family.”

Job Fair attendees visited the Department of Personnel’s booth to receive up-to-date information regarding job vacancies and career development possibilities with State, county and municipal governments.

The event highlights the convenience of commuting to Trenton by the new River Line. Morning and evening rush-hour NJ Transit trains will run at 15-minute intervals between Camden and Trenton, also allowing commuters to transfer to Philadelphia PATCO and New York Septa and Amtrak trains.

Commissioner Castro commented, “Now individuals throughout the South Jersey corridor have a new way to work. I think that is a wonderful thing.”
