This year’s Innovations in New Jersey State Government Award was presented to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for its efforts to secure the State’s vital transportation infrastructure from terrorist attacks.
DOP’s Commissioner Rolando Torres, Jr., the event’s Master of Ceremonies, addressed an audience of nearly 3,000 government employees, visitors, union and public officials. Said Torres, “Public servants educate our children, defend our neighborhoods, care for the sick and counsel our citizens. These are extraordinary services - and to our public servants, it’s all part of their job. Today’s ceremony is a small way of acknowledging the contributions of New Jersey’s public servants.”
Torres also said, “I want to express my deepest gratitude to the brave military men and women who have been deployed overseas…in particular, those who are currently in the Middle East combating global terrorism. I cannot emphasize enough how proud we are of our public servants who have answered our country’s call to duty.”
The Department of Personnel offers a special thanks to the New Jersey State Color Guard and Pipe Band, Department of Corrections; to Mr. John Taylor, Department of Law & Public Safety, Juvenile Justice Commission, for his moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner; and to Chaplain Sidney Kollack, Department of Veterans and Military Affairs, for the prayer invocation.
