Creating the Workforce of the Future is designed to interest students in pursuing careers in science and technology. A panel of public employees encouraged these 8 th graders to prepare for careers in growth areas of the economy.
The Honorable Gwendolyn A. Faison, Camden City Mayor, welcomed Commissioner of Personnel Rolando Torres, Jr. and the following panelists:
-
Forensic Anthropologist Donna Fontana of the New Jersey State Police, who helped to identify victims of the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001
-
Rutgers University Professor Oscar M.E. Schofield, Ph.D., from the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences
-

-
Environmental Engineer, Akili H. Lynn, Department of Environmental Protection, Air Compliance and Enforcement
“Governor Jon S. Corzine is committed to preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s careers,” said Commissioner Torres. “The earlier students are excited about their career possibilities for the future, the easier it is for them establish realistic goals. That is why we are trying to reach out to underserved communities such as Camden, to show these students how to start on a path towards a successful career.”
DOP thanks Camden Mayor Gwendolyn Faison, Morgan Village Middle School Principal Louis Mason and staff, and our panelists, all of whom generously donated their time and expertise to help make this event happen.
