Commissioner of Personnel Rolando Torres, Jr. presented over $1,000 worth of pre-paid international phone cards donated by DOP employees to New Jersey Adjutant General Glenn K. Reith of the Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs (DMAVA).
The phone cards – which were donated by DOP staff through a Phone Card Drive – will be distributed to 100 New Jersey National Guardsmen and women who are serving in Afghanistan. General Reith will personally deliver the cards to our troops.
“This time of year, we’re all reminded how important family connections are—and for our men and women serving abroad, staying connected with family can be especially hard. That’s why we’ve partnered with New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran’s Affairs to help make those connections possible,” said Personnel Commissioner Rolando Torres, Jr.
There are currently 350 New Jersey National Guardsmen and women deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. More than 6,000 members of the New Jersey Army and Air National Guard have played essential roles in the ongoing War on Terrorism.
