Mission of the Geographic Information Systems Laboratory is to provide the spatial information needed to preserve, protect, and enhance the natural and cultural resources of the Pinelands National Reserve, and to encourage compatible economic and other human activities consistent with that purpose.
In order to support the mission the Lab is tasked with the following duties:
- Maintain all spatial data that are specified in the Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan 1979 (N.J.S.A. 7:50-5.3);
- Provide the most current software solutions for spatial data;
- Provide access to spatial data so that all offices can utilize GIS software and produce the answers to questions that are used in the decision making process;
- To train offices in the use of GIS and provide opportunities for managers to understand the continuing benefits of the GIS;
- Provide a system and data consistent and compatible with other governmental agencies in order to promote the efficient transfer and utilization of spatial information;
- Coordinate initiatives with private, public, and non-profit agencies;
- Support all staff through the use of spatial analysis;
- Design, manage, and administer the Geodatabase.
