Ratepayer Advocate Seema M. Singh’s Statement
On PSEG-Exelon Merger Petition Filing

Ratepayer Advocate Seema M. Singh issued the following statement on the joint petition filed today requesting the Board of Public Utilities’ approval for the planned merger between Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) and Exelon Electric & Gas:

“The Ratepayer Advocate has received the regulatory applications filed for the planned merger between PSE&G and Exelon and we are reviewing them closely to examine the overall impact on ratepayers. We want to ensure that consumer rates are not adversely affected and that there is continued delivery of safe and reliable service so that PSE &G customers see a positive benefit from this merger. We must examine all elements of the proposal, in particular, the market power and competitive implications as well as personnel, rates and service issues that may impact ratepayers. Over the course of the review process, we will work diligently to guarantee that the interests of consumers in New Jersey are protected.”

The Division of the Ratepayer Advocate is an independent state agency that represents the interests of utility consumers and serves as an active participant in every case whenever New Jersey utilities seek changes in their rates or services. The Ratepayer Advocate also gives consumers a voice in setting long-range energy, water, and telecommunications policy that will affect the delivery of utility services well into the future.
