N.J. State Commission of Investigation
Organized Crime in Bars Part II 1995
Following up on the ground-breaking 1992 report, the Commission exposed
organized crime's continuing infiltration of New Jersey's licensed
commercial bar and tavern industry. The 1995 report highlighted
the threat posed by this phenomenon both to the integrity of the
licensing system and to the state's overall economy. In a series of
recommendations for systemic reform, the Commission urged more vigorous
enforcement of existing laws, as well as the adoption of additional
measures necessary to strengthen the system of licensure and
enforcement.
