Mercer County was formed 22 February 1838 as follows: Trenton, Ewing, Hopewell and Lawrence Twps. from Hunterdon; Nottingham (Hamilton) Twp. from Burlington; East & West Windsor from Middlesex; and part of Montgomery Twp. (now Princeton) from Somerset.
