Generally speaking, the State Archives does not actively pursue acquisition of non-governmental records. However, certain exceptions are made in light of the Archives' extensive holdings relating to early land transactions, military service, New Jersey's transportation network and government policy-making. Also, many of the collections cataloged as "non-governmental" are in fact records of transportation companies absorbed by the State, or are manuscript collections affiliated with state-owned historic sites. For more information on our policies relative to accessioning non-governmental records, please consult our
Collecting Policy.
