Awards $3.440 Million in Grants

Statewide - The New Jersey Historical Commission (NJHC) met on July 7 at Rutgers University and approved $3,440,000 in general operating support grants to 78 historical organizations, museums, historic sites, and libraries throughout the state.

This is the seventh year of Historical Commission's general operating support grants, which are designed to support organizations that preserve, promote, or provide programs that increase public understanding and appreciation of New Jersey's heritage.

According to Commission chair, Dr. Larry Greene, "We are very pleased that the governor and legislature have provided these funds to support grassroots history organizations throughout the state. These local history groups give New Jerseyans a sense of pride in their state, and bring economic benefits to their communities through tourism."

The program offers historical societies, historic sites, museums and libraries the opportunity to apply for support for expenses such as salaries and wages, contracted services, printing and publicity, postage, telephone and utilities, marketing, staff training, lease expenses, purchase of equipment, maintenance of collections and the interior of structures, travel, insurance and audit expenses, and planning for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
