State Agencies to Publish New Map Detailing
New Jersey Historic Sites and Tourist Attractions
Statewide - The New Jersey Historical Commission along with the New Jersey Departments of Commerce, Economic Growth, and Tourism Commission will soon make available to the public a free map of historical attractions in New Jersey.
The New Jersey Historical Attractions Map will show the location of dozens of historic sites, museums, lighthouses, parks, and other locations in the Garden State, including those associated with the American Revolution, black history, women's history, the industrial revolution, and the Jersey shore.
According to Marc Mappen, Executive Director of the New Jersey Historical Commission, "The Historical Attractions Map will be a useful tool to make the people of New Jersey aware of our wonderful heritage and to encourage tourists to visit our historic sites."
The map will be produced by Alliance CP, a New Jersey custom publishing firm. The New Jersey Historical Commission and the Departments of Commerce, Economic Growth, and Tourism Commission will assist Alliance CP in the planning, design, and content of the map. The cost of the map will be entirely covered through corporate sponsorship and editorial style advertising space.
The project partners are planning to print 250,000 full color maps that will be distributed to the public for free throughout New Jersey and neighboring states. Publication of the map is tentatively scheduled for the spring of 2006.
The New Jersey Historical Commission is a division of the Department of State. Its mission is to preserve, promote and disseminate the history of the state through grants, publications, media projects and public programs. For more information, please email the commission at njhc@sos.state.nj.us.
