On January 12, 1999, a new chapter opened in the long and colorful story of Trenton War Memorial, one of New Jersey's most illustrious theaters.
On that day, the Governor and the Legislature of New Jersey reopened the War Memorial after a $35 million restoration and renovation that had taken nearly five years to complete. The project addressed the past and the future by the meticulous historic preservation of an architectural treasure, listed on the National Register and State Register of Historic Sites, and by a thorough modernization of the building's infrastructure and theatrical production capabilities.
On that day, too, in the name of the people of New Jersey, the Governor and the Legislature formally rededicated Trenton War Memorial "in honor of all those from this state who served with courage, dignity, and patriotism in the Armed Forces of the United States of America," The rededication was but an enrichment of the War Memorial's original mission, which was to honor the men and women of Trenton who laid down their lives during the First World War (1914 - 1918).
Trenton War Memorial on the Delaware River has served the state capital and central New Jersey since 1932. Over the decades, the War Memorial has served as a backdrop for presidents and governors, ballerinas and divas, maestros and magicians, jazz and jokes, crooners and conferences, as well as for the top tier of New Jersey's governmental, social, cultural, and business leadership.
