New In New Jersey — Killing the Poormaster

The New Jersey Historical Commission in partnership with Rutgers University Libraries is pleased to present: Killing the Poormaster:
A Saga of Poverty, Corruption, and Murder in the Great Depression
Join journalist and author Holly Metz as she discusses her latest publication which tells the story of Joe Scutellaro, a husband and father accused of killing Harry Barck, the poormaster of Hoboken, while seeking public financial assistance for his family in Depression-era New Jersey.
Scutellaro's personal tragedy sheds light on the public relief system and the authorities responsible for the injustice suffered by many Americans struggling to survive the Depression.
