Directions & Parking Information

The New Jersey State Museum is located at 205 West State Street in Trenton within walking distance of the State House. It is situated overlooking the Delaware River midway between New York and Philadelphia.

 

The following directions lead to the Capitol Complex. On evenings and weekends, visitors may park in the employee lots adjacent to the Museum. (See parking instructions below.)

From North of Trenton

Using NJ Turnpike

Take exit 7A (Trenton-I-195 West). Proceed on I-195 West and follow 195/29/129 signs. Stay to left and when road divides go left onto Route 29 N-Capitol Complex/Lambertville. Stay on Route 29 North through tunnel and continue to the Calhoun St. exit. Take the Calhoun St. exit and make a right onto West State Street. The Museum will be on the right. Free Parking Areas are behind the NJ Dept of State building located next to the NJ State Museum at 225 West State Street (after 5pm or on weekends.) or there is also limited free public parking available in the State House Garage. On street metered parking is also available.

 

Using Route 1 South

Exit at Perry Street. At light make a left onto Perry St. proceed a few blocks and then turn left at Warren St. Turn right onto West State Street. The Museum will be on the left. Free Parking Areas are behind the NJ Dept of State building located next to the NJ State Museum at 225 West State Street (after 5pm or on weekends.) or there is also limited free public parking available in the State House Garage. On street metered parking is also available.

 

 

From South of Trenton

Using NJ Turnpike

Take exit 7A (Trenton-I-195 West). Proceed on I-195 West and follow 195/29/129 signs. Stay to left and when road divides go left onto Route 29 N-Capitol Complex/Lambertville. Using 295 North

Follow 295 North toward Trenton and take Exit 60 (Routes 29/129/195-Trenton/Shore Points). Stay left and follow signs for 29/129. When road divides go left onto Route 29 N-Capitol Complex/Lambertville. Stay on Route 29 North and continue to the Calhoun St. exit. Take the Calhoun St. exit and make a right onto West State Street. The Museum will be on the right. Free Parking Areas are behind the NJ Dept of State building located next to the NJ State Museum at 225 West State Street (after 5pm or on weekends.) or there is also limited free public parking available in the State House Garage. From West of Trenton

Using Route 1 North

Take the Delaware River Toll Bridge. Immediately after crossing the river, take Route 29 exit and follow signs to Route 29 North-Lambertville.Stay on Route 29 North and continue to the Calhoun St. exit. Take the Calhoun St. exit and make a right onto West State Street. The Museum will be on the right. Free Parking Areas are behind the NJ Dept of State building located next to the NJ State Museum at 225 West State Street (after 5pm or on weekends.) or there is also limited free public parking available in the State House Garage. On street metered parking is also available.

 

Using I-95 North

Take Exit 1 (Trenton-Route 29 South). Proceed on Route 29 South to Calhoun St. exit. Take the Calhoun St. exit and make a right onto West State Street. The Museum will be on the right. Free Parking Areas are behind the NJ Dept of State building located next to the NJ State Museum at 225 West State Street (after 5pm or on weekends.) or there is also limited free public parking available in the State House Garage. On street metered parking is also available.

 

 

Parking Instructions
Due to construction, the surface parking lot directly in front of Patriots Theater will no longer be available as of September 1, 2008. See below for available parking options. Please note P1 parking area is closed.

There is also limited metered parking on West State Street in front of the Museum. Take the Calhoun Street exit off of Route 29. At traffic light, turn right onto West State Street. The Department of State building and the Museum complex will be immediately on your right.


On evenings and weekends, additional free parking is available in employee parking lots adjacent to and behind the Museum. Use the Calhoun Street exit off of Route 29. At traffic light, turn right onto West State Street. Take your first right which is a driveway between the Department of State building and the Museum and Auditorium. Following this driveway to the back of the Museum will lead to additional parking and an entrance to the Planetarium.

The Friends Museum Shop is located on the second floor of the Museum's main building.

 

The Shop Hours

10am - 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday
Noon - 4pm on Sunday
The Friends Shop is closed on Mondays and State Holidays
