Educational Outreach Services

 

 

Distance Learning: Live Videoconferencing Lessons

Coming Soon & Free of Charge!

With collections of more than 2 million objects in the fields of paleontology, geology, archaeology, ethnology, fine art and cultural history, and a staff of experts, professors and research scientists, the New Jersey State Museum will be able to offer teachers, their students and groups of homeschoolers an outstanding opportunity for distance learning via videoconferencing technology.   Learn about New Jersey’s treasures from the experts that study them, and interact with our Museum professionals in real-time, without ever leaving your classroom – all for FREE!

Museum Materials for Classroom Use:

Natural History – Teachers may borrow a variety of rocks, fossils, minerals shells, and insects from the Museum’s Natural History collections for instructional purposes.  Specimens are gathered based upon individual requests.  Insurance is required.

Traveling Exhibition Service:

Fossils of New Jersey – This self-contained teaching exhibit in two sections features seven major forms of fossils in section one, and thirteen chronologically-arranged New Jersey fossils in section two.  Teachers may borrow an exhibit for up to one month at a time.  Best displayed on a sturdy table at least four feet long (1 luggage-type case – 60 lbs., 12” x 22” x 38”.)

 

 

Object Identification:

Dependent on staffing resources and by appointment only, the Archaeology/Ethnology, Cultural History, Fine Art, and Natural History bureaus will identify objects or specimens brought in by students, teachers or the public.  For an appointment, call:

The Friends Museum Shop is located on the second floor of the Museum's main building.

 

The Shop Hours

10am - 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday
Noon - 4pm on Sunday
The Friends Shop is closed on Mondays and State Holidays
