Every year, thousands of historic buildings in the United States are torn down to make way for new construction. Others face their demise through vandalism and fire. The program shows how individuals can make a difference by serving as volunteers, buying historic houses and working with town leaders to help preserve the historic character of main streets and neighborhoods.

Gardens Great and Small

Gardens Great and Small takes viewers on an impressive tour of several public and private gardens that illustrate why New Jersey is called the Garden State. The special looks at gardens from the northern border of the state at the New Jersey State Botanical Garden at Skylands in Ringwood State Park, Ringwood, to Leaming's Run Gardens in Cape May County, which is one of the largest annual gardens in the country.

Take an inside look at state government in New Jersey. This program explains the principles of American democracy and how they relate to New Jersey state government. The program also looks at the process of representative democracy, and concludes by showing the process through which a bill becomes law.

NJN Specials: Jersey Gold: Return of the Striped Bass

(30 minutes); Auditorium; Free

It tells the story of how the striped bass, once nearly extinct along the northeastern Atlantic seacoast, is once again the king of sport fish for most New Jersey anglers. Dubbed Jersey Gold because of its importance to the state’s economy, this game fish has brought new life to the seacoast and the maritime and tourism industries.
