Governor signs legislation

 

Governor Corzine Signs Legislation Officially Designating New Jersey Israel Commission within Department of State

On December 22, 2008, Governor Jon S. Corzine signed legislation establishing the New Jersey-Israel Commission as a permanent commission within the Department of State.

"This is a wonderful day for New Jersey, the State of Israel and the unique sister state relationship that's flourished for two decades," said Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells.

"This permanent designation is proof of how important our economic and cultural ties to Israel are, and how this partnership will remain a cornerstone of New Jersey's larger international presence for years to come. To say we're thrilled is an understatement." More ...

NEW JERSEY AND ISRAEL:
SHARING A LONG AND STRONG RELATIONSHIP

The New Jersey-Israel Commission was established in 1989 to implement the goals of the Sister State Agreement - to promote the development of trade, culture and educational exchanges; encourage the development of capital investment and joint business ventures; and foster a spirit of cooperation between the citizens of the State of Israel and the State of New Jersey.

The executive order has been extended by each subsequent governor and most recently under Governor Jon S. Corzine by E.O. #49 of January 1, 2007. More...
