A recently published survey in Variety ranked New Jersey as the fifth busiest state for film production in the nation. This is the highest ranking the state has ever received, although it regularly places in the top ten according to Joseph Friedman, Executive Director of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission.

The only states to rank higher than New Jersey were, in order, California, New York, Florida and Illinois, all of which are established production centers. "Our inclusion in this select group is a clear, objective indication that New Jersey's film and television industry is thriving," Friedman adds, "and we look forward to impressive growth in the years ahead."

Dozens of feature films are made in the state every year, including such recent projects as "The Hurricane," "Sweet And Lowdown," "Cradle Will Rock," "Analyze This" and "You've Got Mail," and the upcoming releases "Keeping The Faith" and "Shaft Returns." Recently, New Jersey has also become home to a number of prime-time television series including HBO's "The Sopranos," NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," and Comedy Central's "Upright Citizens Brigade" and "Strangers With Candy."
