“Mercy,” the latest network television series to be produced in New Jersey, will premiere on Wednesday, September 23 at 8:00 pm on NBC.

Created by Liz Heldens (Friday Night Lights), the show concerns three nurses in a New Jersey hospital who navigate the daily traumas and social landmines of life and love, both inside the hospital and out in the real world. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jamie Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, Guillermo Diaz, James Tupper and James LeGros.

The pilot for “Mercy” was filmed on location last spring, in Paterson, Passaic, Weehawken and Jersey City. The series itself began shooting in August, and is being produced predominantly in a studio in Secaucus.

This is the third NBC series to locate in the Garden State. The first, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” is now in its 11th Season, and is produced in a studio in North Bergen. The comedy/drama series “Ed” with Tom Cavanaugh and Julie Bowen, was filmed in a Northvale studio for four seasons, ending in 2004.

“Secaucus has become something of a mini-Burbank in New Jersey” states Steven Gorelick, Executive Director of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission. The town has an array of studios and film and television industry facilities, including the newly opened MLB Network (the production arm of Major League Baseball), NBA Entertainment, WWOR-TV, Mark 7 Studios, and ARRI/CSC, the largest camera, lighting and grip house in the northeast.
