Dorothy “Dotty” Cullen
Dorothy “Dotty” Cullen
is a phenomenal woman. Her volunteer activities go back more
than twenty years and continue to this day. Her genuine concern
for people of all ages is apparent by the numerous activities she
is involved in. Dotty encourages and nurtures the youth, fights
for those with physical limitations, and crusades for senior citizens
to have secure and comfortable housing. These efforts are evident
by the many awards she has received such as The Liberty Bell
Award, Vineland Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, City of
Vineland Certificate of Appreciation just to name a few.
One group
that is near and dear to her heart are veterans. Dotty has become
a strong advocate for veterans and their families past and present.
This year she orchestrated a project that sent Valentine's Day
cards to our service people being deployed overseas. Imagine
how she felt upon receiving a “thank you” from one of our serviceman
applauding her thoughtfulness. To quote one of her friends “Dotty
eats, sleeps and breathes Red, White and Blue.”
Dorothy wrote
the following poem, which was distributed at the Awards luncheon.
The
Precious Symbol
Original Poem written by Dorothy “Dotty” Cullen
I Look at ‘ole Glory”
What do I see?
The symbol of America
The land of the free
The symbol of hope
Faith and dreams come true
It is written in the starts and stripes
The red, white and blue
I salute her each morning
I talk to her every day
With prayer to God
To find a way
To bring our P.O.W.'s and M.I.A's home
With prayer to God
To end the war on terrorism
And keep the spirit of patriotism alive
I look at “ole glory”
I know our goal will survive
We are Americans; we have each other
Regardless of race, creed or
color
To you “ole Glory,” long may you wave
O'er this land of the free
and the home of the brave
Wherever we go, whatever we do
Our love will always be with you
