Trenton, NJ -On Saturday, April 21st, Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells will join local municipal officials in New Brunswick and members of the New Jersey Community Water Watch Americorps Program to kick off the fourth annual Raritan-wide Earth Day Cleanup campaign. Hundreds of volunteers from several environmental and community organizations are expected to participate in the Earth Day cleanup and cultural fair. The theme is"Think Global, Act Local."

WHAT:
In celebration of Earth Day and National Youth Service Day, more than 400 volunteers will participate in the cleanup of the Raritan River along the banks of the waterway in New Brunswick. Meanwhile, hundreds of other volunteers will take part in simultaneous cleanups of 10 other communities along the waterway.

Immediately following the press conference, Secretary Wells and the volunteers will move to the river's banks for the cleanup of the Raritan, a major source of drinking water in Central New Jersey. The Raritan is one of the largest rivers in the state and the nation’s 14th most polluted river.
