The New Jersey State Museum announces the inaugural season of the Sunday Science Lecture Series.  The Series, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored in part by the Friends of the New Jersey State Museum.  Scholarly yet family-friendly lectures will be presented in the Museum’s Auditorium by world famous researchers in the fields of paleontology, paleo-artistry, and archaeology.

This inaugural season of the Series features a remarkable schedule of some of the world’s most distinguished and prominent researchers in their respective fields.  On February 10, 2008, Dr. Ted Daeschler, Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, will discuss 400-million-year-old fossils in Pennsylvania and the Canadian Arctic.  On March 9, 2008, Dr. Richard Veit, archaeologist, author, and Monmouth University professor, will discuss historical archaeology in the Garden State.  On April 13, 2008, Dr. Peter Dodson, University of Pennsylvania professor and paleontologist, will describe his dinosaur-hunting adventures on four different continents.  On May 4, 2008, Dr. Michael Stewart, prehistoric-archaeologist and Abbott Farm site expert, will discuss “Pottery and Ancient Native American Life in the Delaware Valley.”   Finally, on June 15, 2008, celebrated paleo-artist Dan Varner will share his experiences and his latest projects.

Adding to this unique experience, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, share their own experiences and ideas, and meet the featured speaker following each lecture.  Each talk begins at 5 pm and light refreshments will be served.  Auditorium Galleries will be open to the public at 4 pm each Sunday, prior to the lecture.  Parking is free.  For more information, please call (609) 292-6310 weekdays from 8:30 to 3:30.  Reservations are encouraged.
