SECRETARY NINA MITCHELL WELLS TO HOST
2006 GOVERNOR’S STATEWIDE VOLUNTEERISM CONFERENCE
MAJOR NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT

Trenton, NJ – Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells will join more than 500 volunteers from New Jersey communities at the 2006 Governor’s Statewide Conference on Volunteerism. The conference marks the 20th anniversary of the Governor’s Office of Volunteerism. The theme is “Volunteerism: Making a Difference and Closing the Gap…Where Would We Be Without Our Volunteers?” Secretary Wells will introduce several initiatives to expand volunteer and service opportunities in New Jersey.

The conference, which runs until 3:30 p.m., will offer workshops on how community-based organizations can tap into the volunteer power of baby boomers, senior citizens and citizens with disabilities. Additionally, a panel of presenters will focus on how service learning has become an integral part of instruction at colleges and universities, and how leaders from corporate and private sectors can increase volunteer support.
