NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson fielding questions from mayors and other elected and appointed officials at the New Jersey League of Municipalities convention. Commissioner Simpson was a featured speaker on two panels and discussed the Department's focus on safety and State-of-Good-Repair as well as the importance of properly prioritizing projects to make the best use of limited resources.

NJDOT Deputy Commissioner Joseph Mrozek joined Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) and local officials to rededicate the recently rehabilitated 126-year-old Calhoun Street Toll-Supported Bridge that connects Trenton, NJ with Morrisville, PA over the Delaware River. Also on hand, but not pictured, at the ceremony to mark the completion of the $11.4 million project were DRJTBC executive director Frank McCartney, DRJTBC Commissioners Yuki Moore Laurenti and Melissa Heller, Trenton mayor Tony Mack and residents from both communities.

NJDOT Commissioner Jim Simpson joined CSX Railroad Executive Director Clarence Gooden at the Maher Terminal in Port Elizabeth to mark the opening of the new Liberty Corridor Freightway. The major public-private partnership will enable double-stack intermodal freight from the Port of New York and New Jersey to inland destinations, expanding access for freight trains and keeping thousands of trucks off crowded highways in northern New Jersey.

Route 206 Bypass ground breaking event

NJDOT Deputy Commissioner Joseph Mrozek joined local officials at an event held on the site of the future highway to mark the start of construction on the new Route 206 Bypass being built east of the existing Route 206, between Old Somerville Road and Mountain View Road in Hillsborough Township. On hand to break ground on the $43 million ‘Contract A’ which will construct the center portion of the new bypass roadway between the Amwell Road and Hillsborough Road intersections were NJDOT Resident Engineer Steve Ruskan, Somerset County Freeholder Jack Ciatterelli, Assemblyman Peter Biondi, Mrozek, Senator Chris Bateman, Hillsborough mayor Frank DelCore, Freeholder Patrick Scaglione, Hillsborough Deputy mayor Gloria McCauley and NJDOT Project Manager George Worth.

Clean Up NJ Press Conference

NJDOT Commissioner Jim Simpson kicked off the 'Clean Up NJ' campaign off of I-78 in Springfield Township to address concerns including litter, unmowed grass and other vegetation blocking sight lines, graffiti and in long term, unsightly rusted bridge structures. NJDOT will focus existing resources to make a noticeable difference in targeted areas, some of which have been identified by legislators and other elected officials who we asked for suggestions.   Commissioner Simpson was joined by NJDOT Region North Maintenance Supervisory Jeff Spicka, NJDOT regional maintenance crew members, NJ State Police, Springfield Township Committeeman Marc Kraus and Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz (D-21).

NJDOT Commissioner Jim Simpson, representing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, joined with Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission Executive Director Frank McCartney (not pictured) at a press conference in Lower Makefield Township, PA to announce a proposed plan to renovate the heavily traveled Scudder Falls Bridge carrying I-95 over the Delaware River.  According to the proposal, the project would be the nation's first multi-state public-private partnership, or P3.

Median Crossover Prevention Press Conference

As crews worked to install new median barrier along I-195 in Upper Freehold, Commissioner Simpson announced that NJDOT has reached a milestone in its objective to install 189 miles of crossover barriers, providing motorists with complete crossover protection on all Interstate and freeway medians of 60 or fewer feet in width. A total of 134 miles of new median protection has been installed statewide in recent years. NJDOT launches statewide pothole repair campaign

NJDOT Commissioner James S. Simpson joined members of Region North Maintenance Crew 2130 to repair a few potholes along Route 46 in Teterboro. Commissioner Simpson provided a kick start to the Department's annual springtime pothole repair campaign.
