Whitehead Road bridge to
open a year ahead of schedule

Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein today announced that the Whitehead Road bridge over the Amtrak Northeast Corridor rail line in Hamilton Township will open Friday, October 8, 1999 --nearly a year ahead of schedule.

"This project is a good example of cooperation yielding results," the Commissioner said. "Everyone worked together and now motorists will have a new bridge in service a year sooner than expected."

Weinstein thanked the Department’s Capital Program Management staff, Mercer County, Amtrak, Hamilton Township and the contractor, George Harms Construction, Inc., of Farmingdale, NJ for working together to make Friday’s opening a reality.

The Whitehead Road bridge replacement project began in April, 1998. The project is valued at $6.2 million and is federally-funded.
