Three State Inspection Sites
Designated for "Specialty Vehicle" Inspections

On Monday, December 13, when New Jersey begins its new enhanced inspection and maintenance program, state inspection facilities at Morristown, Asbury Park and Winslow will become "Specialty Vehicle Inspection Stations."

Those three facilities will be reserved for inspections of specialty vehicles such as kit cars, retired school buses, reconstructed vehicles, high-rise and salvage vehicles, and vehicles with adaptations for handicapped drivers.

In preparation for the change, Asbury Park and Morristown have been closed. Those stations will remain closed to general motor vehicle inspections. In addition to testing specialty vehicles, the Winslow station has been fitted with three inspection lanes to conduct the new enhanced inspection.

Previously, specialty inspections were performed at different sites depending on what type of inspection was required.

"We wanted to offer specialty vehicle owners centralized locations for their inspections," said C. Richard Kamin, Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles. "Instead of searching for the correct inspection location, the owner can take advantage of using any of the three sites. We chose Morristown, Asbury Park and Winslow to provide north, central and south Jersey locations."

Owners of regular vehicles who have been going to those sites can go to alternative state inspection facilities, such as Wayne and Randolph for Morristown, and Eatontown for Asbury Park. Winslow will still accommodate regular inspections.

"Each of the alternative facilities will have additional inspection lanes for customer convenience," Kamin noted.
