NJDOT announces traffic
mitigation plans for OPSAIL 2000

The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced traffic mitigation plans for the upcoming OPSAIL 2000. The following measures will be taken to help reduce delays and ease traffic into Hudson County:

All lane closures on routes 1&9, 1&9 Truck, 3, 7, 139 Upper and Lower Level (leading to the Holland Tunnel), as well as routes 169, 185, and 440 (all in the Bayonne area) will be suspended from Monday, July 3th through Wednesday July 5th.

-- Approximately 20 Variable Message Signs will be deployed on various highways from Friday, June 30, through Friday, July 7, in order to provide directional information to motorists.

-- NJDOT maintenance crews from yards in Fort Lee, Secaucus, and Jersey City will be deployed in order to assist police with any problems that occur on highways.

-- NJDOT Traffic Operations personnel will be staffing the N.J. State Police Unified Command Post for OPSAIL 2000 in Jersey City.

Traffic on Tuesday, July 4th, will be the heaviest for the week. The following measures are being taken to address these traffic impacts:

-- Vehicular traffic into Liberty State Park will be prohibited beginning 10:00 PM on July 3, to 6:00 AM July 5. All those wishing to enter the park must do so as pedestrians, or utilize the shuttle service via park and ride lots, or use the light rail line.

-- Park and Ride lots will be available to motorists at no cost. Those lots are the North Bergen Park and Ride located adjacent to routes 495 and 3, the Vince Lombardi Park and Ride on the N.J. Turnpike near Interchange 18, and the Military-Ocean Terminal (MOTBY) in Bayonne off Route 169. NJ TRANSIT will handle the operation for the MOBTY lot, and private carriers will operate buses for the Vince Lombardi and North Bergen lots.

-- All park and ride buses will utilize the New Jersey Turnpike-Newark Bay/Hudson County Extension, which will have eastbound and westbound right shoulders dedicated for buses only. Buses will exit at Interchange 14B and travel to either end of Theodore Conrad Drive or the intersection of Hart Drive and Thomas McGovern Drive to drop off or pick up passengers.
