Monmouth County Diversion Route Book Completed

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today released the Monmouth County Traffic Incident Management Plan at a ceremony held at the Monmouth County Police Academy in Freehold.

The plan, a coordinated effort between the NJDOT’s Traffic Operations- South, New Jersey State Police and local police departments, is designed to achieve the benefits of reduced congestion, provide for a coordinated program to clear motor vehicle incidents from the roads and establish an orderly management system through pre-determined detour routes.

"Incident management works at its best when the public can take it for granted," said Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein. "Through efforts like this citizens in Monmouth County can expect a seamless, coordinated transportation network that provides the very best service."

Funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) at a cost of $25,000, the program supports the logistical coordination among traffic incident service providers. Monmouth County is the tenth diversion book completed in the state, and is the third county to be completed in central New Jersey.

Now in its fourth year, the Incident Management Plan is intended to improve traffic incident management through better communications and more efficient use of available resources.
