Public Hearing scheduled
for the Draft Environmental
Assessment for Route 52 Causeway bridge project

The New Jersey Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing and information center on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Route 52 Reconstruction Project, Cape May County. The public hearing will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2000, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jordan Road Elementary School, 129 Jordan Road, Somers Point, New Jersey.

The proposed project area extends from the intersection of Route 52 with Route 9 in Somers Point across the Great Egg Harbor Bay to the intersection of 9th Street and Bay Avenue in Ocean City.

The project consists of the replacement of the causeway over the Great Egg Harbor Bay, including four new bridge structures; construction of standard width driving lanes and shoulders for the length of the causeway; construction of a sidewalk along one side of the causeway and bicycle-compatible shoulders along both sides; replacement of Somers Point traffic circle with a signalized intersection that includes turning lanes; and the widening of MacArthur Boulevard in Somers Point between Shore Road and Route 9, from two lanes to four lanes plus a center turning lane.

In order to facilitate the giving of testimony, speakers will be allotted five minutes each. Written statements may be given instead of oral testimony. All such statements must be submitted to the Department of Transportation, Office of Community Relations, 1035 Parkway Avenue, P.O.Box 600, Trenton, NJ 08625 by December 5, 2000, which is the closing date of the hearing record.

A display and information area will run concurrently with the hearing to provide project-specific information.
