Signed The Following Transportation Legislation Today


S-2708/2630 Legislation Requires New Jersey Citizens to Obtain a Four-Year Digitized Picture Driver's License and Permits Enhanced Data Storage on Licenses

S-2708/2630, sponsored by Senator Andrew Ciesla (R-Monmouth/Ocean), requires New Jersey citizens to obtain a four-year digitized picture driver's license and permits enhanced data storage on licenses. The bill appropriates $1.5 million to the Department of Transportation to implement the provisions of this bill and establishes a "Secure Driver's License Fund" to receive fees collected for the digitized pictures.

This bill becomes effective 60 days after the Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles certifies that the division is prepared to issue licenses with digitized pictures. The operative dates may not extend later than January 1, 2003
