Maintenance repairs begin on Route 35 bridge over Cheesequake Creek
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that maintenance repairs have begun on the Route 35 lift bridge over Cheesequake Creek connecting the boroughs of Old Bridge and Sayreville in Middlesex County.
The floor beam repair work began earlier this week, requiring daily single-lane closures on Route 35 in either direction between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is weather dependent and there is no weekend construction associated with the repairs. Construction is scheduled for completion by April.
NJDOT has plans for a major reconstruction of the existing structurally deficient Route 35 Cheesequake Creek Bridge, including the replacement of the bridge decks and electrical/mechanical systems. That project is currently in the design phase.
Variable message signs on Route 35 in both directions will be in place to alert motorists of the lane closures. Waterway traffic will not be impeded by the construction. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org real-time travel information.
