NJDOT to resurface roadways in Hunterdon,
Middlesex and Somerset counties

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced the start of a maintenance and resurfacing project that will improve a total of 15 miles of roadway along Routes 12, 27, 27, 22 and 206 in Hunterdon, Middlesex and Somerset counties.

“This maintenance project will improve safety along these roads and create smoother, more comfortable rides for motorists,” said NJDOT Commissioner Jim Simpson.

Beginning Monday, April 25, motorists may encounter temporary single lane closures and alternating traffic patterns in both directions on Route 12 from Kingwood Township to Raritan Township Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day, and on Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following day and on Sundays from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.  No detours will be necessary.

The $8.7 million resurfacing project also includes Route 27 in both directions from North Brunswick to South Brunswick in Middlesex County, Route 28 in both directions from Somerville Borough to Bridgewater Township in Somerset County, Route 22 in both directions from North Plainfield to Scotch Plains in Somerset County, and Route 206 in both directions in Hillsborough Township, Somerset County. 

The roadway maintenance project includes milling and paving the roadway, repairing and upgrading the existing drainage systems, installing vehicle sensors, and new curbing and sidewalks within the project areas. 

Project completion for all the routes is scheduled for October 2011.
