NJDOT to resurface roadways in three counties

(Trenton) -- The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced the start of a maintenance and resurfacing project that will improve a total of 15 miles of roadway along Routes 49, 77 and 322.

“This maintenance project will improve safety along these roads and create smoother, more comfortable rides for motorists,” said NJDOT Commissioner Jim Simpson.

Beginning Monday, May 9, motorists may encounter temporary single lane closures with alternating traffic on Route 49 from Quinton, Salem County to Stow Creek, Cumberland County on Mondays through Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.  No detours will be necessary.

The $6.2 million resurfacing project also includes Route 77 from Upper Deerfield, Cumberland County to Upper Pittsgrove, Salem County and Route 322 in Monroe, Gloucester County.

The roadway maintenance project includes milling and paving the roadway, installing vehicle sensors at five intersections, new drainage gratesand repairing curbing and sidewalks within the project areas. 

Project completion for all the routes is scheduled for September 2011.
