Local roadway shifts announced in Montgomery
Route 206 bridge replacement over CSX railroad progresses

(Trenton) - The ongoing replacement of the Route 206 bridge over CSX railroad tracks in Montgomery Township will require traffic shifts on two local roadways next week, NJDOT announced today.

NJDOT’s contractor, Ritacco Construction, is scheduled to begin establishing new work zones on CR 601 (Trent Avenue) and Reading Boulevard in the vicinity of the bridge this week. CR 601 traffic will be shifted to the north, with the new work zone in place on the southern portion of the road. Reading Boulevard traffic will be shifted to the west, with the new work zone in place on the eastern portion of the road.

Once the new traffic patterns are established, one travel lane will be maintained in each direction on both CR 601 and Reading Boulevard.

The $11.2 million federally funded project is replacing the existing, structurally deficient bridge with a new structure, featuring full-width shoulders and sidewalks, on a new alignment approximately 200 feet south of the existing bridge. The new roadway and bridge alignment will improve the geometry of the Route 206 approach roadways. The project will also improve the substandard geometry on CR 601 and reconfigure the existing multi-leg intersection of Route 206 and CR 601 to a signalized intersection.

Construction operations began off the highway in August 2010. The new bridge is expected to open spring 2012.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
