Route 52 Causeway construction activity to require early-morning closures this week

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that the Route 52 Causeway will be closed to traffic between Somers Point and Ocean City this week during early morning hours.

The entire causeway will be closed from 1 a.m. until around 6 a.m. in both directions beginning on Tuesday, January 24, and continuing each morning through Friday, January 27.

The closures are necessary to safely accommodate construction crews as they erect beams for the new fixed-span bridge being constructed to carry northbound traffic out of Ocean City. The work has been scheduled during these hours to minimize any inconvenience to motorists.

Traffic will be detoured to the Ocean City-Longport toll bridge or to the 34th Street Bridge.

Variable message signs will alert motorists of the detours. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for construction updates and real-time travel information.
