NJDOT to replace Collings Avenue bridge deck over Interstate 676 in Camden
Bridge to be closed during construction requiring detours
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a bridge deck replacement project on Collings Avenue (CR 630) over Interstate 676 southbound in Camden City.
Weather-permitting, NJDOT’s contractor, South State, Inc., is scheduled to close and detour the bridge on Sunday, February 10 to traffic for approximately seven months to perform the necessary deck demolition and replacement work. If weather conditions do not allow for the work zone to be set up, the closure will be postponed.
• Collings Avenue eastbound motorists will be directed to take the ramp for I-676 southbound to immediately take Exit 1A following signs for I-676 northbound to Exit 1 for Collings Avenue.
• Collings Avenue westbound motorists will be directed to take I-676 northbound to Exit 3 for Morgan Boulevard, use the interchange to U-turn onto I-676 southbound to Collings Avenue.
The $1.5 million project will replace the existing, structurally deficient bridge deck and parapets, along with minor superstructure repairs. The roadway approaches on either end of the bridge will be resurfaced and some curb and guide rail upgrades will be made.
The reconstructed bridge is expected to be reopened to traffic in late-summer 2013.
NJDOT will maintain all travel lanes on Interstate 676 southbound below the overpass during peak period hours, utilizing traffic shifts. However, single-lane closures may be necessary on I-676 during off-peak hours.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
