Garden State Parkway construction to require impacts on Route 34 in Wall
(Trenton) - NJDOT and New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) officials today announced a series of overnight road and ramp closures on Route 34 in Wall Township to accommodate ongoing construction on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) bridges that span over the state highway.
Starting tonight, October 16, NJTA’s contractor, Northeast RemsCo, is scheduled to close the GSP southbound ramp connection to Route 34 southbound (at Exit 98) to traffic overnight (7 p.m. to 5 a.m.) for approximately seven weeknights (October 16th, ,17th, 18th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th) for crane assembly and box beam installation operations at this location.
• Motorists from the Parkway south destined for Route 34 southbound will be directed to take the ramp for Route 34 northbound to use the Route 138 interchange to access Route 34 southbound.
Following that, the contractor plans to close Route 34 overnight - in one travel direction at a time - for one-to-two nights each way, during the weeks of October 28 and November 4.
o During the Route 34 southbound closyures, motorists will be directed to take Route 138/I-195 eastbound to Allenwood Road to Route 34 southbound.
o During the Route 34 northbound closures, motorists will be directed to use the off-ramp for GSP/Route 138/I-195, take the ramp for Route 138 westbound to the ramp for Route 34 northbound.
Access to the Garden State Parkway southbound from Route 34 southbound - at the ramp located just prior to the bridges - will be maintained. Interstate 195 eastbound and Route 138 westbound motorists destined for Route 34 southbound will be directed to use either Allenwood Road or W. 18th Avenue (CR 30).
The NJTA is reconstructing the bridges over Route 34 as part of a $174 million contract to widen the GSP to restore full roadway shoulders between milepost 100 and milepost 90 in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Construction began at the bridges over Route 34 in March 2013 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
