Railroad-crossing repairs announced for
East Oak Street in Millville
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detour

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a planned railroad crossing repair project that will require the closure of East Oak Street in Millville, Cumberland County.

East Oak Street is scheduled to be closed to traffic in both directions at the Winchester & Western freight rail crossing in between N. High Street and Route 47 (N. 2nd Street) from 7 a.m. on Friday, December 13, until around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17.

  • Traffic will be detoured using Route 47, Broad Street, and N. High Street.

Access will be maintained to residential properties and businesses on either side of the rail line. If the work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.

In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing in Millville the freight rail contractor will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing bed, install new tracks, and repave the asphalt approaches. This $365,000 project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
