Route 45 to be closed in both
directions at Mannington Creek Bridge

Temporary detour necessary for several weeks in Salem County

(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a project to repair and reconstruct the Route 45 approaches to the Mannington Creek Bridge in Mannington Township, Salem County. The work will require the road to be closed for several weeks and a temporary detour will be in place.

The $450,000 state-funded project will repair the roadway approaches on both sides of the bridge to stabilize the roadway. In addition to reconstructing the approach, NJDOT will resurface the roadway approaches to the bridge and upgrade the existing guiderails.

NJDOT's contractor, R.E. Pierson Construction, is scheduled to close Route 45 on Thursday, March 6 in the northbound direction at the Route 540 Bypass and in the southbound direction at Haines Neck Road (County Road 631). Southbound traffic will be detoured on Haines Neck Road (CR 631) to Kings Highway (CR 620) to the Route 540 Bypass. Northbound traffic will be detoured at the Route 540 Bypass to Kings Highway (CR 620) to Haines Neck Road (CR 631). Local traffic (not crossing the bridge) will have access to local roadways between the intersections.

Variable message signs will be deployed on Route 45 to alert motorists of the upcoming traffic pattern changes. NJDOT anticipates completing the project in the spring 2014.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
