Christie Administration announces grants through the Local Aid Infrastructure Fund program

$700,000 supports pedestrian safety and road reconstruction projects

(Trenton) - The Christie Administration today announced three grants totaling $700,000 through the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s (NJDOT) Local Aid Infrastructure Fund (LAIF) program to help municipalities in three counties advance safety and pavement reconstruction projects.

LAIF grants are among about a dozen Local Aid grant programs administered by the NJDOT that utilize state or federal funds to provide direct support to municipalities and counties, enabling local governments to advance important projects without burdening local property taxpayers.

These Local Aid grants will reach nearly $329 million in FY 14, and fall under the larger NJDOT Local System Support program that includes funding for local lead projects, regional planning and project development, and transportation enhancement projects.

Municipalities apply for LAIF grants on an as-needed basis throughout the year. The Department awards grants periodically based on the availability of funding and the strength of the application. The three grants announced today include:

• $250,000 to Stanhope (Sussex County) for pedestrian safety and sidewalk construction on Route 183/Route 206

• $250,000 to Hillsdale (Bergen County) to resurface Baylor Avenue and Kent Avenue

• $200,000 to Weehawken (Hudson County) to resurface several streets including Cooper Place, Potter Place, and Oak Street
