Route 206 Bridge Replacement Project
begins in Hammonton
Lane closures require traffic shift in Atlantic County

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced shoulder lane closures on Route 206 for the start of a construction project replacing two bridges in Hammonton, Atlantic County.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, and continuing until project completion, NJDOT’s contractor Midlantic Construction, LLC. is scheduled to shift traffic on Route 206 for utility work and to prepare the location for the demolition of two structurally deficient bridges; the Clarks Creek Bridge and the Sleepers Brook Bridge. The majority of the bridge replacement work will be performed in the evening to minimalize any inconvenience to motorists.

The $5.2 million federal and state-funded project will replace the two bridges spanning over Clarks Creek and Sleepers Brook with new 40.5 feet wide precast concrete culverts and parapets at each location. There will also be roadway improvements on each of the bridge approaches. The project will consist of three stages. The first stage of the project will close the shoulder lanes only, allowing one lane of traffic in each direction. The second stage will require alternating traffic utilizing temporary traffic signals. The third and final stage will perform milling and resurfacing of the roadway. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2017.

Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge replacement project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
