Route 18 and Route 1 lane and ramp closures scheduled for overnight work this week

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced scheduled closures for this week on Route 18, Route 1 and also the ramp from Route 18 northbound to Route 1 southbound, and as the replacement of the Route 18 Bridge over Route 1 in New Brunswick, Middlesex County advances.
Each night this week, starting at 9:00 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, beginning tonight Monday, May 2 and continuing through Saturday morning, May 7, NJDOT’s contractor Anselmi & DeCicco is scheduled to close one lane on Route 18 northbound, Route 1 northbound and Route 1 southbound for ramp and bridge work. At times, two lanes may be closed on Route 18 northbound. The scheduled overnight work is expected to be completed by Saturday morning, May 7.
The ramp from Route 18 northbound to Route 1 southbound will be close from 10 p.m. until to 5 a.m. the next morning, Tuesday night, May 3 through Saturday morning, May 7. The detour for this ramp work is as follows.

The Route 18 northbound ramp to Route 1 southbound will be closed overnight this week from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning, Tuesday through Friday.
• Motorists traveling from Route 18 northbound to Route 1 southbound will be directed to Route 1 northbound and exit at the Woodbridge Avenue interchange to Route 1 southbound.
Throughout the next few months, there may be additional lane and ramp closures, as well as traffic patterns shifts, at the Route 18 and Route 1 interchange. NJDOT will announce any closures before they are implemented.
The $30 million bridge replacement project is utilizing accelerated bridge construction techniques to minimize impacts to motorists. This involves the use of rapidly deployed moveable construction barrier curb and prefabricated bridge deck. The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016.
Portable and overhead variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
